Learn about why we employ Microscopic Dentistry at our office.

Microscopic Dentistry

Along with his extensive advanced training, Dr. Steger is one of a small percentage of general dentists who use a microscope to ensure the greatest accuracy during the diagnostic and treatment phases of your care. Less than 1% of dentists nationwide provide this level of microscopically enhanced dentistry. This level of precision allows for many advantages for the patients and treatment team.

Why Microscopic Dentistry?

Microscope guided dentistry is highly effective for all dental patients seeking the highest quality of care, beautiful results and a healthy, long lasting smile.  Dr. Steger believes that high quality, precision-based dentistry provides the best outcomes for preventative, functional and cosmetic patients.  Above all else, our goal is to help you maintain a healthy, functional set of teeth.

Preventive Care

Simply stated, microscopic dentistry provides the most accurate and detailed view of the mouth, tooth and gum structure.  This greater degree of visibility provides Dr. Steger the distinct advantage of identifying cavities, fractures, wearing patterns, etc. much earlier in the disease/damage process.

In restorative dentistry, the ability to spot these issues at the earliest stage is of supreme importance to the success and outcome of treatment.  Issues that are “invisible” to the naked eye or even under loupes, become easily identifiable with the use of a microscope.  Identifying most dental issues before they become major concerns saves you time and money.  This cutting edge, yet conservative approach to dentistry assists in maintaining the longevity of your teeth and gums, thus preserving more of the tooth’s natural structure. Additionally, earlier identification of dental issues and increased precision during treatment procedures generally provide a lower degree of risk and decreased time in the office for most procedures.

Precision Based Care

Most doctors examine your teeth under 2-1/2 to 3 power.  A microscope allows Dr. Steger to magnify up to over 10 power to perform dental work such as crowns and veneers!  It also aids treatment of root canals and other non-surgical treatments.  Your dentistry should be spot on and precise, with a great look and fit that lasts for years.   A microscope is a key part of that process.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Your smile is one of your most important features. An ideal smile is symmetrical, balanced, and natural, complimenting both your mouth and overall facial structure.

In the field of cosmetic dentistry, dentists work in millimeters to provide the patient with beautiful results. Dr. Steger believes that the only way to deliver the high quality cosmetic results that patients deserve is through the lens of his microscope. Enhanced magnification provides multiple advantages in all aspects of cosmetic dental procedures.  Looking through the lens of the microscope Dr. Steger is better able to identify any possible issues with your existing tooth structure and viability.  Moreover, he has a greater precision identifying teeth that would benefit from cosmetics.

Once your cosmetic treatment has begun, microscopic dentistry provides more accuracy when prepping teeth and more accurate margins with adjacent tooth structure.  Equally as important, the microscope allows Dr. Steger to provide highly accurate information to other specialists that may be working concurrently on your smile makeover.  On the day of delivery, you can rest assured that your teeth will not only be beautiful, natural and symmetrical, but functional and long-lasting.
